Data Collection Phase
June - November 2006: During the data collection phase the workshop organisers will collect video of a series of design meetings. All data will be transcribed and a DVD will be authored containing all video obtained.
During this phase particpants are invited to formally declare their interest in the project with a short summary of how their research to date might inform the analysis of the data.
Data Distribution Phase
December 2006 - January 2007: Data collected will be formatted on to DVDs and sent out to all workshop participants along with guidelines for the research.
At the end of this phase participants are required to write a short research proposal of how they plan to analyse the data, indicating which parts of the data they will concentrate on. This will allow the organisers to ensure synergy between research analyses. Participants should also comment on how the proposed research will be informed by previous research.
Formatting Requirements for Research Proposal (to follow)
Research Phase
February - June 2007: During the research phase participants will analyse the data received. As there will be upwards of 15 hours of data this will be quite an intense period for research groups.
During this phase participants will be required to produce a research proposal outlining the research they intend to do with the data. The deadline for this proposal is 30th March 2007. Individual comments on proposals will not be given, instead an overall summary of all proposals will be produced as a way of communicating the overall shape of the workshop. This will be sent out early in April.
Submission Phase
July - August 2007: Following the end of the research phase research groups will submit a draft paper which will be reviewed by two reviewers drawn from the organising committee. Reviewers will again be looking to comment on the synergy between papers, as well as checking for formatting requirements and paper length. At this stage certain themes may become apparent for the workshop and comments will seek to reinforce these themes.
We don't expect to reject any papers at this stage, but we reserve the right reject any papers that clearly don't engage with the data or the overall spirit of the workshop.
Towards the end of this phase participants are required to submit a final version of their paper for presentation at the workshop. Pre-prints for the workshop will be produced from these papers.
Workshop
September 2007: The workshop will be held from the 19th to the 21st September. There will be limited paralllel sessions and where possible sessions will be themed. On the evening of the 18th September there will be a presentation describing the setup of DTRS7 by way of an introduction for delegates who have not been part of the research.
Publication Phase
October 2007 - June 2008: Following the workshop research groups will be asked to re-draft their papers according to the discussions of the workshop and the themes that have emerged. Re-drafting provides an opportunity for papers to reference other workshop papers. The proofs for the edited book will be submitted at the end of June 2008.
During this period a selection of papers will be made for publication in special issues of the journals Design Studies and CoDesign.
